We're each coordinated in our own individual way. Our muscular, skeletal, and neurological organization is a reflection of our unique development and experiences. Some of our most important patterns are formed in infancy, during 'tummy time.' During this critical period, our brain learns to orient our head and neck in space, coordinate our eyes, and organize our muscles in response to gravity, enabling us to maintain an upright posture. The patterns that we establish while lying on our belly make crawling, standing, and walking possible, and become the foundation of our upright future.
"Feldenkrais lessons done while lying in a prone position can bring about extraordinary results and help you to regain access to your body’s upright, gravitational wisdom."
-David Zemach-Bersin
However, from the start, we form biases and asymmetries, including, for example, a preference to turn towards one side more than the other. Inconsequential to begin with, such patterns tend to become more pronounced over time and can cause a variety of problems with our posture, joint health, and mobility.
This series will help to make your most ingrained habits flexible and amenable to change. It features six gentle, floor-based lessons designed to provide you with an opportunity to experience the remarkable therapeutic potential of practicing Feldenkrais lessons in a prone position. Perfect for anyone seeking relief from aches and pains, these lessons will help you release long-held tensions, allowing you to engage in all your upright activities with greater comfort, flexibility, intelligence, and ease.
Some of the lessons in this series will be done while lying on the stomach. No worries! You'll be able to use all the extra padding (pillows and blankets) you like. We are committed to your success and comfort. Find out more. With the right kind of cushioning, you can be comfortable lying on your stomach. Register now!
